As of October 10, 2026, Google's free student plan comes in two versions. Eligible college students in the U.S. get a 12-month Google AI Pro trial. Students in more than 140 other markets get 12 months of Google AI Plus. Both must be redeemed by December 31, 2026. Both need SheerID student verification, a personal Google Account and a payment method. Both turn into a paid plan when the year ends unless you cancel: $19.99 a month for AI Pro in the U.S., $4.99 or the local equivalent for AI Plus. This Google One student offer is claimed at one.google.com/ai-student, the same link in every country; the Gemini for Students page shows the version for your country.
If the offer isn't working, three things explain most failures. You may be signed in to a different Google Account from the one that went through SheerID. Something on the account may rule you out: a family group, a school-issued account, your age, your country, or a Google One plan bought through Google Fi or another partner. Or the payment step failed. Two moves make things worse: paying the regular price to get past a screen, and retrying SheerID over and over. Jump to the fixes by error message.
Gemini student offer 2026: AI Pro in the U.S., AI Plus everywhere else
Google announced the current Gemini AI student offer on August 19, 2026. The plan you get depends on the country of your college or university, not your citizenship or where you happen to be (offer terms).
| What you get | U.S. college students | Students in other supported markets |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Google AI Pro, 12 months | Google AI Plus, 12 months |
| Gemini usage limits | 4x the limits without a plan | 2x the limits without a plan |
| Storage | 5 TB | 400 GB |
| Also listed | Gemini Spark, Gemini Omni, Gemini in Gmail and Docs | Gemini Omni, unlimited uploads for study notebooks |
| Pro model in the Gemini app | Yes | No, once Google's October 2026 model change reaches your account |
| Price after 12 months | $19.99/month | $4.99/month or local equivalent |
| Redeem by | December 31, 2026 | December 31, 2026 |
The AI Plus offer covers markets where Google AI Plus is sold, except the U.S. (which gets AI Pro), Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Bolivia, Albania and Tunisia. Canada's student page says the previous offer "ended on December 9, 2025 and is no longer available in your region" (gemini.google/ca/students).
Google AI Pro is the paid tier that used to be called Gemini Advanced, and before that Google One AI Premium. "Gemini Pro for students" and "Gemini premium for students" usually refer to this plan. Outside the U.S., though, the free year is AI Plus, not AI Pro.
Which countries get the free student year, and what it costs after
Google doesn't publish a full list of the 140+ markets. Its country pages, such as gemini.google/gb/students for the UK, show the plan and the price that starts after the free year. As of October 10, 2026, they list these monthly prices:
| Country | Free plan for 12 months | Monthly price after the free year |
|---|---|---|
| United States | Google AI Pro | $19.99 |
| United Kingdom | Google AI Plus | £4.49 |
| India | Google AI Plus | ₹399 |
| Australia | Google AI Plus | A$7.99 |
| Japan | Google AI Plus | ¥725 |
| South Korea | Google AI Plus | ₩7,500 |
| Brazil | Google AI Plus | R$24.99 |
| Mexico | Google AI Plus | MXN 99 |
| Indonesia | Google AI Plus | Rp 75,000 |
| Philippines | Google AI Plus | ₱285 |
| Pakistan | Google AI Plus | Rs 1,400 |
| Nigeria | Google AI Plus | NGN 7,700 |
| Israel | Google AI Plus | ₪19 |
| United Arab Emirates | Google AI Plus | AED 18.99 |
| France | Google AI Plus | €4.99 |
Prices are list prices from each country's student page; taxes can change what you see at checkout. If your country isn't listed here, open gemini.google/students from that country; it redirects to the local version with the local price.
Eligibility requirements: who qualifies for the Gemini student plan
The 2026 offer terms and Google One's student offer help page require all of the following:
- Age 18 or older. The birthday on your Google Account counts. High school students don't qualify, even if they've been accepted to college.
- Enrollment at a higher education institution in a supported country, as an undergraduate or graduate student.
- SheerID verification of your student status, usually with your school email address.
- A personal Google Account. The offer "is not available on your school-issued Workspace for Education account." You use your school email to verify, then claim the plan on your personal account.
- A Google Payments account with a valid payment method. You aren't charged during the free year, but the card is charged when it ends.
Some accounts are excluded even when the student qualifies:
- Members of a Google One family group. The help page says you can claim after you leave the shared plan. Leaving can cost you the shared storage and benefits, so check what you would lose first.
- Accounts whose Google One plan comes through a third party or partner such as Google Fi, plus Pixel Pass and discounted Pixel bundle subscribers.
- Supervised Google Accounts.
Already paying for Google One doesn't rule you out. Google's switching rules are covered in the troubleshooting section.
Step-by-step signup guide: the official student offer page
Use the official link, one.google.com/ai-student. Links to the SheerID form shared elsewhere skip the step that ties your verification to your Google Account.
Before you start, run through this checklist. Each item matches a failure students have reported:
- The birthday on your Google Account makes you 18 or older.
- You're not in a Google One family group, or you've left it.
- VPN, proxy and private DNS are off.
- In payments.google.com, your country and address are correct, a valid card is on file, and old payment profiles you no longer use are removed.
- You can open your school email, or you have a current proof-of-enrollment document (a class schedule, tuition receipt or student ID for this term).
Then claim the offer:
- Sign out of every Google account in the browser, or open a private window.
- Sign in only to the personal Google Account that should get the plan.
- Open one.google.com/ai-student and select the student offer.
- When the SheerID form appears, pick your school and enter your school email. SheerID only checks enrollment; any payment happens in Google's checkout afterward. If instant verification fails, SheerID asks you to upload proof of enrollment and reviews it. Review time varies by country.
- Return to the same tab and the same account, and choose the student offer.
- Add or confirm your payment method. The checkout should show the student plan at no charge for 12 months. If you're asked to pay the regular monthly price before SheerID has verified you, stop: users who paid at that point reported ending up on a normal paid plan.
- Subscribe, then set a reminder for about two weeks before the plan ends. The 12 months run from the day you redeem, not from August 19.
Gemini student offer not working? Match your message to the fix
Find the line that matches your screen, then read the matching section below. Google names only one error cause itself: claiming with a different account from the one that started verification. The other causes come from Google's eligibility rules and from reports on Google's help forums. The forum experts quoted there are volunteers, not Google staff.
| What you see | Most likely cause | First thing to try |
|---|---|---|
| Only paid plans, no student option | Signed in to the wrong account, or the account is excluded | Sign out of everything, sign in to your personal account only, open one.google.com/ai-student |
| "This offer is not available" | An eligibility block, or an earlier failed attempt | Clear the blocks in the checklist, then contact Google One support |
| "This account isn't eligible for Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium for students" | You're on the YouTube bundle offer; country or age doesn't match | Check your birthday and country, then use the free offer instead |
| Error right after SheerID verified you | Claiming with a different Google Account | Claim with the account you used when you were sent to SheerID |
| "Verification Limit Exceeded" or a SheerID loop | SheerID attempts used up | Stop retrying and contact SheerID |
| Payment declined, "Transaction invalid" or OR_CCREU_01 | Payments profile problem (codes not documented) | Fix the payments profile once, then contact support |
| Charged $19.99 or put on a regular plan | Paid before verification, or a plan switch | Contact Google One support; don't buy a second plan |
If Gemini itself is slow or refusing prompts after the plan is active, the offer is fine. That's a usage limit, covered in Gemini "Too Many Requests in a Short Time": Which Limit You Hit.
Gemini student offer not showing: only paid plans appear
This usually means the page is looking at the wrong account. A common case: you open gemini.google/students with your school account, tap "Get started," get switched to your personal account, and then see the regular plans. Sign out of all accounts, sign in only to your personal account and go straight to one.google.com/ai-student.
If the offer still doesn't appear, check the exclusions: family group, Google One through Google Fi or another partner, a supervised account, or an institution in Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Bolivia, Albania or Tunisia. There was also a real gap between campaigns. Most 2025 offers had to be redeemed by December 9, 2025, the last U.S.-only one closed on April 30, 2026, and the current offer started on August 19, 2026. Many "not showing" threads from the first half of 2026 fall in that gap.
"This offer is not available"
This message appears before or after SheerID. Work through the blocks in order:
- Leave any family group.
- Fix the birthday on your Google Account if it makes you look under 18.
- Turn off VPN and proxies, and make sure your Google Play and payments country match where your school is.
- Remove old payment profiles at payments.google.com.
- Start again from one.google.com/ai-student in a clean, signed-out browser.
One user reported this message after a payment failed at the final step. The account then seemed marked as having claimed the offer, while another Gmail account still saw it. If that matches your story, retrying won't clear it. Ask Google One support to look at the account.
"This account isn't eligible for Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium for students"
The full message continues: "Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium for students isn't available in some countries or for people under a certain age. Learn more about Google One feature eligibility." It names the bundle of Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium for students. That is a paid student bundle ($8.99 a month in the U.S.), not the free year (YouTube's announcement).
Two things trigger it, according to the message itself: country and age. The bundle isn't offered in Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong or Macau, and it needs the same 18+ verified student status. Check your Google Account birthday and your Play and payments country. If you wanted the free year, go back to one.google.com/ai-student and pick the free student offer rather than the bundle.
Error after SheerID says "You've been verified"
This is the one cause Google documents. If you get an error when claiming, you are probably signed in to a different Google Account from the one you were using when you selected the student offer and were sent to SheerID. Sign in with that original account and claim from it (Google One Help).
Volunteer experts on the forums add that a verified school email is linked to one personal Google Account and can't be moved to another one. If you verified on the wrong account, contact support rather than verifying again elsewhere.
"Verification Limit Exceeded" or a SheerID verification loop
SheerID allows a limited number of attempts. After that, the verification fails and a new one has to be started (SheerID developer docs). More retries won't help. SheerID doesn't publish an explanation of this message. Users on other partners' forums (Figma, Cursor) report that only SheerID support can reset the lock, and that replies took 5–7 business days.
Contact SheerID through the form on its student help center or by voicemail at 1-833-317-3372. SheerID says it replies by email within one business day. Volunteers on Google's forum also list customerservice@sheerid.com. A loop where the form keeps reappearing can mean the SheerID result never reached your Google Account. Start the whole flow once more from one.google.com/ai-student in a signed-out browser before you write in.
SheerID verification troubleshooting: school not found or documents rejected
If your school isn't in SheerID's list, try its full official name, its abbreviation and any campus name. If instant verification with your school email fails, use the document upload. Pick a document that shows your name, your school and the current term, scanned or photographed so every line is legible. Uploads go to a "Pending" review, and SheerID says review time varies by segment and country. Wait for the result email instead of resubmitting.
Payment step fails: "Transaction invalid" or OR_CCREU_01
Google hasn't documented what "Transaction invalid" or the code OR_CCREU_01 mean for this offer. Treat them as payments-profile problems and check once:
- Go to payments.google.com and confirm the country and address on the active profile.
- Delete payment profiles you no longer use.
- Use a card that works for online subscriptions in your country.
Then try one more time from the start. If it fails again, contact Google One support. One student reported that a failed payment left the account showing "This offer is not available," so repeated attempts can cost you the offer on that account.
Charged $19.99 or moved to a regular paid plan
Two different things cause a charge. Some students paid the regular price because SheerID never appeared, and ended up on a normal monthly plan. Others switched from an existing paid plan. Don't start a second subscription to fix it. Google's switching rules give a prorated refund when a paid AI Plus or AI Pro member moves to a student AI Pro offer, so a charge isn't necessarily final. Contact Google One support with the account email, the charge date and amount, and your SheerID confirmation email. Ask them to move the account to the student offer and refund the charge.
In the U.S. there's one trap in the other direction. If you upgrade from the 12-month AI Pro trial to a paid membership, you can't get the trial back.
Already paying for Google One or Google AI Pro
Volunteer experts on Google's forums still repeat the 2025 advice: "If you have an existing Google One subscription then you must cancel it and wait for it to expire." Google's own help page now describes switching directly:
- Paid Google AI Plus or AI Pro member switching to a student AI Pro offer: you change immediately and get a prorated refund for the rest of the billing cycle.
- Paid AI Pro member switching to a student trial (for example, the AI Plus student year): you keep AI Pro until the end of the current billing cycle, then the trial applies.
- AI Ultra member: you keep Ultra until the end of the billing cycle.
- On another Google One extended trial: claiming a student offer revokes that trial and switches you to the new one.
If the switch doesn't appear for your account, contact Google One support before canceling anything. If you cancel and the offer has closed by the time your plan expires, the offer is gone.
When to stop retrying: Google One support or SheerID
Stop and ask for help once you've cleared the checklist and tried one clean attempt. Further retries can lock SheerID or leave the account marked.

| Problem | Who can fix it |
|---|---|
| School not found, document review, "Verification Limit Exceeded" | SheerID (support form or 1-833-317-3372) |
| "This offer is not available" after the checklist, payment errors, charges, refunds, plan switches | Google One support, via the contact option in the Google One Help Center |
Have these ready: the Google Account you're claiming with, your school email, your SheerID confirmation email if you got one, the exact message on screen (a screenshot helps) and the date of any charge.
After the trial: what happens when your free student year ends
When the 12 months end, the plan converts to a regular paid Google AI Pro or Google AI Plus plan at your country's standard price, except where local law requires your consent. Google says it notifies you before the change. To avoid the charge, cancel in your Google One membership settings before the end date. The terms say your membership may stay active until the free year runs out even after you cancel.
Storage matters too. If you've used more than the free 15 GB when the plan ends, Google's storage rules apply: no new uploads to Drive, no Photos backup, and Gmail sending and receiving can be affected until you delete files or buy a Google One plan.

If you'd rather not keep paying, you have three options:
- Keep the plan at the price in the table above.
- Move to a cheaper plan. In the U.S., Google AI Plus is $4.99 a month.
- Return to Gemini without a plan. Without a subscription, Gemini picks the model for you ("Auto"), and limits are lower.

Can you renew or extend the Gemini student plan for another free year?
Not automatically, and Google doesn't describe any extension of the free AI Pro or AI Plus year. It converts to a paid plan when it ends. The student pages say "eligibility must be verified each year to maintain access." Google's help page says AI Pro student offers and the YouTube bundle are re-verified through SheerID, usually every 12 months, for up to four consecutive years. You get an email when it's due. Miss it, and you lose the offer and may be charged the regular price.
What Google has done is let past trial holders back in. The 2026 pages say students "whose 2025 AI Pro trial has expired can qualify." Whether another free year opens after the 2026 campaign hasn't been announced.
Still on a 2025 Gemini student trial?
Google's help page says current 2025 AI Pro trial holders "may be eligible for a limited-time discount on regular Google AI plans" when their trial ends. The amount isn't stated. Students whose 2025 trial has already expired can claim the 2026 offer.
Google doesn't say whether you can claim the 2026 offer while your 2025 trial is still running. Its general rule is that claiming a student offer during another extended trial revokes the current trial. Outside the U.S., that would mean trading AI Pro for AI Plus early. If your 2025 trial ends before December 31, 2026, the safer order is to let it end, then claim the new offer before the deadline.
Old Gemini student offer terms: Gemini Advanced, 15 months, January 31, 2026
Plenty of guides, videos and forum posts still describe the 2025 offers. Here's what those terms meant and what applies now:
| What you may read | What it referred to | What applies as of October 10, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| "Free Gemini Advanced" | The old name of the paid Gemini tier | Google AI Pro (free for a year in the U.S. only) |
| "15 months free" or "1.5 years free" | A 2025 U.S. promotion | 12 months from the day you redeem |
| "Sign up by January 31, 2026" | The 2025 campaigns; their official redeem-by dates were November 3, 2025, December 9, 2025 and, in the U.S., April 30, 2026 | Redeem by December 31, 2026 |
| "2 TB storage" | AI Pro storage in 2025 | 5 TB (U.S. AI Pro) or 400 GB (AI Plus) |
| "Gemini 2.5 Pro" | The Pro model in 2025 | Gemini 3-generation models; Pro only on AI Pro |
| "Veo 2 video generation" | The 2025 video model | Video generation with Gemini Omni |
| "NotebookLM Plus" | A 2025 AI Pro benefit | Plan pages now list Gemini Notebook with more notebooks and Audio Overviews |
| "120+ countries" | The 2025 rollout | Over 140 markets for the AI Plus offer |
The old Gemini Help article "Get Google AI Pro student trial" now returns an error page. The current instructions live on Google One's Claim a Google One student offer page.
What the AI Pro and AI Plus student plans include
Google AI Pro (U.S. students): 4x the Gemini usage limits of an account without a plan, a 1 million-token context window for uploaded files, 5 TB of storage, Gemini Spark, Gemini Omni, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and the Pro model. Student AI Pro members can buy AI credits for extra use in Google Flow and Google Antigravity. The launch post mentions Google Health Premium, but Google's help page says recurring add-ons are unavailable with a student offer. That covers Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium and storage upgrades. YouTube Premium Lite isn't included during the trial either.
Google AI Plus (students outside the U.S.): 2x the usage limits, a 128K-token context window, 400 GB of storage, Gemini Omni, and unlimited uploads for study notebooks, visuals and Gemini Live. Google's model access page says AI Plus keeps Flash-Lite and Flash but no longer includes Pro once the October 2026 change reaches your account. AI Plus subscribers get an email saying when. If Pro has disappeared from your picker, Gemini Model Selector Gone? Why Pro Is Missing on Each Plan explains what each plan shows. Gemini 3 Deep Think vs Flash vs Pro: Thinking Levels Explained covers how the models differ.
The offer terms add that usage limits during the offer may differ from paid members' limits and can change without notice.
Gemini student plan FAQ: deadline, price, renewal and country
Is the Gemini student offer still available in 2026?
Yes. As of October 10, 2026, the offer is live and must be redeemed by December 31, 2026. Google hasn't announced an extension or an early end. The free year runs 12 months from the day you redeem, so claiming in December still gets you a full year.
Is Gemini free for students?
For 12 months, if you qualify: AI Pro in the U.S., AI Plus in other supported markets. It's a trial that renews as a paid plan, so a payment method is required and you need to cancel before the year ends if you don't want to pay. Gemini without a plan stays free for everyone, with lower limits.
How much is Gemini Pro for students?
In the U.S., Google AI Pro costs nothing for the first 12 months, then $19.99 a month. The Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium student bundle costs $8.99 a month in the U.S. Outside the U.S., the free year is AI Plus, not AI Pro.
Is there a Gemini or Google One student discount if I miss the free year?
Besides the free year, the student offer on Google One's help page is the Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle, a discounted paid plan for students in over 80 countries. Separately, current 2025 trial holders may get a limited-time discount when their trial ends. Third-party reports from summer 2026 describe a separate Handshake promotion offering a year of AI Plus to U.S. and Canadian students. Google's own pages don't mention it, and its end date is unclear.
What if I'm a high school student?
You don't qualify. Every 2026 offer requires you to be 18 or older and enrolled at a higher education institution. Supervised accounts are excluded too.
Does the Gemini student offer work in the UK?
Yes. UK university students get 12 months of Google AI Plus, then £4.49 a month. The UK page is gemini.google/gb/students.
Can I use my university Google Workspace account?
Not for the plan itself. You verify with your school email through SheerID, but the subscription must live on a personal Google Account. The offer isn't available on school-issued Workspace for Education accounts.
I'm an international student at a U.S. college. Which plan do I get?
The plan follows the country of your institution, so a student enrolled at a U.S. college gets the U.S. offer, Google AI Pro, regardless of citizenship.
What happens if I graduate during the free year?
The terms list current enrollment among the conditions to keep access for the whole offer period. Re-verification normally happens yearly, so plan around the end date in case you aren't a student by then.
Can I share the student plan with friends or family?
No. The offer is for individual use, can't be transferred, and family-group members are excluded.
